ABLATIVE LASER

The CO2 Laser was one of the first Lasers used in dermatology.
In 1990, a new technology appeared that enabled us to treat wrinkles with CO2 Laser: the era of Laser resurfacing had started!
In most cases, the procedure is performed in a surgical clinic, with facilities for anesthesia.
The healing time is long and redness may last from weeks to months.

In 1995, the Erbium:YAG Laser was launched. With a good expertise, Doctors can achieve the same results as with a CO2 Laser, but with less redness and less risks of reactional hyperpigmentation. The Erbium Laser treatment is significantly less painful and many procedures may be performed without anesthesia.

Only trained dermatologists are allowed to perform these procedures.

The Erbium:YAG Laser is also used for resurfacing.
Laser resurfacing is very effective on deep wrinkles of the upper lip (so are manual dermabrasion or phenol peel). Acne or post surgical scars can be improved with high precision.
Ablative Lasers cause complications and patients must be educated beforehand.
Cases of persistent redness and scarring have been reported.
New systems have been developed to shorten downtime. Using either the CO2 Laser or the Erbium:YAG Laser, tiny holes are made over a defined area. Wound healing is faster due to areas of intact skin between the pixels (these treatments are also called "fractional"). The outcomes are progressive and several treatment sessions are necessary.

In our clinic we use a fractional Erbium:YAG Laser.
